The Kinaalda is a coming of age ceremony of the Navaho. This ceremony is taking place inside a hogan in view of the sacred Shiprock Mountain, one of the Navaho's five sacred peaks that define this space. The young woman is given all her wealth in the form of jewelry which she wears as she spends all night in the hogan with female family members and a medicine man praying. At dawn, she runs to the sun for its blessing. This particular young woman is a modern woman still adhering to this tradition, a bridge to the two worlds. This painting has been accepted and exhibited in the Fredericksburg Museum exhibit in Fredericksburg, VA.
