Alyson's Kinaalda tells the story of a young Navaho girl at her Kinaalda, or Coming of Age Ceremony. She stands before sacred Shiprock, revered by the Navaho and in the shadow of this iconic monolith, she spent all night dressed in gifts of her wealth, silver, turquoise and coral jewelry, in a hogan as a medicine man prayed for her accompanied by female relations. At dawn she runs to the sun for its blessings accompanined by other females who wish to share the power gained by her new blessings. This is a real young woman, modern and yet traditional, respecting and honoring the old ways.
